Myopia Management

Myopia, commonly known as short-sightedness, is a condition that affects distance vision—making faraway objects appear blurry, while close-up vision remains clear. It is an increasingly common issue, especially among children, and if left unmanaged, it can lead to further complications with eye health over time.

There are two main options to help slow down the progression of your child’s myopia: specially designed contact lenses and spectacle lenses. In some cases, a combination of eye drops and glasses may also be used to support more effective control.

As part of the management plan, your child will need to attend regular check-ups. These visits allow us to monitor changes in their vision, assess how well the current approach is working, and make adjustments if needed. Some individuals may continue or restart myopia management later in life, depending on their visual needs.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

AVAILABLE AT BURY ST EDMuNDS

Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K, is a non-surgical vision correction method that uses specially designed gas-permeable contact lenses worn overnight. While you sleep, these lenses gently reshape the surface of the cornea, allowing for clear vision throughout the day—without the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses.

Ortho-K is particularly effective for individuals with mild to moderate short-sightedness (myopia) and is a great option for those with active lifestyles who want more freedom from traditional eyewear. It also offers a safer, reversible alternative to laser eye surgery, making it a popular choice for children, teens, and adults who are not ready or suitable for permanent procedures.
